The church of the 21st century must once again regain the focus of the early N.T. church
that evangelized the known world in 20 years. The 20th century has produced a selfish Christianity in which multitudes are
trying to use God to gain for themselves an easier life.
Soul-winning has almost become a lost art. Most churches see very few souls saved. Many churches win none at
all. How long is God going to put up with people who are failing miserably at what is the primary purpose of the church?
Do you have a burden for the lost? Do you have loved ones that need to be saved? Do you want to be a soul-winner?
Are you a Christian? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you need to be a part of this study. Failure to
take advantage of the opportunities that is provided for your spiritual growth, when you have the time and opportunity is
sin. (Ja 4:17)
The purpose of this study is not just to provide you with facts and information about soul-winning, but to provide
you with the knowledge and tools necessary for you to become a fruit bearer. (Jn 15:8) The ultimate goal of this study is
that we would "GO" and win the lost. May we get a fire in our bones (Jer 20:9) and give heaven a reason to rejoice. (Lu 15:7)

SOUL-WINNING
ACTS 8:26-39
UNIT 1
Mans Greatest Need
(A) MATT 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou
shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
PSA 103:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his
benefits.
The greatest need man has is salvation. The one thing all men have in common is that they are sinners.
(Rom 3:23) All pain, grief, sorrow and bondage is the result of sin. God, recognizing the need of man, wrapped up in Jesus
everything man needs.
(B) ROM 14:5 Let every man be fully persuaded
in his own mind.
It is our responsibility as a Christian to help the lost man to find Jesus, who is the answer to their
problems. Sounds simple!! The Problem is, man is confused about what he needs or at least the best way to get it. For example
the alcoholic or drug addict know they need to be free, but may think that all they need is A.A. therapy or a change in scenery
to get back control of their lives. If we are going to convince people Jesus is the answer we must be fully persuaded in our
own mind that Jesus is the ultimate answer.
ANONYMOUS QUOTE: "A time is coming for all men when they will either be born again, or wish they
had never been born at all."
Until we are convinced that this quote is an absolute fact we will never be an efficient witness
or soul-winner.
UNIT 2
Called To Witness
I. Commanded To Witness
(A) ACTS 1:8 But ye shall receive power after that the
Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the
uttermost part of the earth.
(Isa 43:10)
God has called every Christian to be a witness. The Bible does not present witnessing as an extra activity
done only by a few special people. To be an obedient Christian this is not optional. Many of us are weak in our witnessing
effort.
(B) ACTS 22:15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all
all men of what thou hast seen and heard.
ACTS 4:20 For we can not but speak the things which we have
seen and heard.
MK 5:19 Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things
the Lord hath done for thee.
A witness is a person who tells what they know to be true. As a witness for Christ we are to tell people
what He has done for us.
A soul-winner goes beyond just telling what the Lord has done for them. They encourage and invite people to
exercise faith in Jesus Christ for them selves and be saved.
II. Requirements for Soul Winning
Most people seem to think that either soul-winning is not their responsibility
or they are not qualified. Neither is true. The Biblical requirements for soul-winning are very simple and can be met by anyone.
Here is a list of requirements that must be met.
(A) 1 JN 5:10-13 He that hath the son hath life; andhe
that hath not the son of God hath not life. These things have I written- -------that you may know that you have eternal life.
I1 TIM 1:12 I know whom I have believed.-------
You must be saved and know it. You can not give away what you do not possess.
(B) ISA 6:8 I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom
shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I: send me. (James 1:22)
You must be willing to go to the lost (Matt 28:19) The lost seldom come to you asking to be saved.
The simple reason most people are not soul-winners is they do not "GO".
(C) PSA 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the
Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine Heart. "Commit" thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him and he shall bring
it to pass. (Rom 12:1)
You must be committed to the Lord and to soul-winning. A part time, half-hearted soul-winner is
ineffective. We must choose each day to be available to God so that we can take advantage of soul-winning
opportunities given to us.
(D) MK 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while
before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
You must pray. As a soldier in God’s army we must stay in contact with our "Commander-in Chief."
We must communicate with God in order to know where and how he is working. Only God knows who is willing and ready to hear
the Gospel Plan of Salvation.
TRUTH "Until we have talked with God, we are not fit to talk to man."
(E) ACTS 4:13 They were unlearned and ignorant men (Peter
and John)
Great knowledge is not essential. Most people seem to think to be a soul-winner you must have
a large portion of the scriptures committed to memory. While this is an asset it is not absolutely necessary. It is not great
knowledge or intelligence that makes a soul-winner, but rather great love. (Jn 3:16) Here are some Bible examples of people
who had little knowledge or education but were great soul-winners.
(1) Acts 4:13 Peter and John
(2) John 4:39-42 Samaritan woman
(3) Mk 5:18-20 Legion
III. Hindrances to Soul-Winners
Witnessing is a normal Christian activity. It is to be a part of each Christians
daily life whenever opportunities occur. Creating witnessing opportunities is God’s job. Our part is to take advantage
of the opportunities, yet surveys show most Christians rarely, if ever, witness to the lost. WHY?
1. FEAR OF FAILURE
God made man in his own image. (Gen 1:27) Since God cannot fail we have a built in God given desire to be
successful in what ever we do. Can you think of anything that you do that you want to be a failure at? This quote by a famous
sports person sums up our attitude toward success or failure. "If winning is not important why keep score."
(A) ISA 55:8 NLT "My thoughts are completely different
from yours," says the Lord. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine."
The world bases success or failure on visible results. If you get no results, then you are considered
a failure. Therefore a person who witnesses to the lost and has no one to accept Christ is considered a failure by the world
standards and seemingly by many church standards. God’s standards are quite different. To be successful in God’s
eyes all you have to do is be faithful to witness and share the message of reconciliation. (2 Cor 5:18-20) The moment you
share the message, regardless of that persons response you are a complete success in God’s eyes.
TRUTH "The only way to fail is to sit on your Tail."
2. FEAR OF NOT KNOWING ENOUGH
(A) EX 4:10 I am slow of speech.
Moses expressed what many of us feel. He was saying in effect "Lord, I don’t know what to say, I don’t
know enough to do that." This is not a lame excuse because we understand the magnitude of what we are about to do. To a certain
degree we hold the eternal destiny of that person in our hands. We fear saying the wrong thing that would cause someone to
reject Christ, bring dishonor to God or embarrass ourselves.
(B) LU 12:48 Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall
much be required.
God does not expect more out of us than we are capable. We need to be like Peter and John (Acts 4:20) and
witness about what we know to be true. Don’t wait till you’ve learned it all before you witness, because if you
do you will never witness. If you get in over your head, shut up and shout for help.
3. FEAR OF OFFENDING SOMEONE
(A) MATT 23:27-28 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees
hypocrites! For ye are like unto white sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead mens
bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men but within ye are full ofhypocrisy and
iniquity.
Jesus was not afraid to risk offending people, not because he was mean or hard, but because he understood
the consequences of dying in a sinful state.
(B) ROM 6:23 The wages of sin is death.
(C) LU 13:3 Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish.
When we understand the consequences of a person dying lost. We should not be afraid of risking hurting some
ones feelings for a short period of time, in the hope that they may receive eternal life. We must refuse to believe that God
will allow our unbelieving friends to bypass hell and join us in heaven.
IV. Why Should I Be a Soul-Winner
1. WE ARE COMMANDED
(A) MK 16:15 Go ye into all the world and preach
the gospel.
As we have already clearly stated we are commanded by God to win the lost. Failure to make an effort when
you know what is required is sin. (James 4:17)
2. CALVERY SHOULD MOTIVATE US
(B) JN 3:16 For God so loved the world that
he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Calvary should motivate us to be soul-winners, when we understand what Jesus did for us. Failure
to witness shows us to be selfish and ungrateful.
ILL. Vladimir Nabokov, a Russian-born novelist achieved popular success in the 1950’s –
60’s. He was also a collector of butterflies. One evening at dusk he returned from his days excursion in hot pursuit
of a butterfly. He heard someone groaning most pitifully down by a stream. He was asked "Did you stop?" He replied "No, I
had to get the butterfly." The next day the corpse of an aged prospector was discovered.
3. IT BENEFITS US
(A) PROV 11:30 He that winneth souls is
wise.
(B) LU 11:28 Blessed are they that hear
the word of God and keep it.
We are wise and blessed "NOW", in this present life. Do you want the blessings of God upon your life? Then
win souls.
Blessed (greek) To cause to prosper. Could you stand to prosper?
(C) DAN 12:3 NLT Those who are wise will
shine as bright as the sky, and those (Soul- Winners) who turn many to righteousness will shine like stars forever.
(D) MATT 6:20 Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt.
• There are eternal rewards such as the "Soul-Winners Crown" for every soul we win, every life we touch
for Christ we will be given a reward. Soul-winning benefits us both now and eternally.
• As we conclude this unit let us take a moment and search our hearts. There are two kinds of people
in our churches.
(a) Those who talked about the lost.
(b) Those who talk to the lost. Which Are You?
UNIT 3
Soul-Winning Strategy
I. What Attracts Sinners
ILL. According to Rick Warren there are two basic reasons most people don’t know Jesus Christ
as their Lord and Savior.
1. They have never met a Christian.
2. They have met a Christian
The one thing that most attracts sinners to a Christian and gives them an opportunity to witness is a "Changed
Life." If your life has not been visibly changed then you have nothing to offer the lost man. On the other hand a changed
life lived out before a confused and convicted sinner is like a beautiful flower in a bees path. They will be drawn to you
like a magnet wondering how you could be so happy and content. If your life is not attractive to sinners, then you need to
become reacquainted with Jesus Christ.
(A) ACTS 4:13 They marveled and took knowledge ofthem,
that they had been with Jesus.
The people saw a difference in Peter and John. They were no longer afraid of dying.
(B) JN 4:29-39 Come, see a man which told me all thingsthat
ever I did: Is this not the Christ?
• The Samaritan woman had been afraid and ashamed to show her face in public. After meeting Jesus she
runs down main street "preaching" the gospel without fear or shame, as loudly as she could.
(C) JN 9:25 Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not:
one thing I know, that whereas I was blind, nowI see.
• The blind man said in effect, I don’t know anything about doctrine or theology, but I know one
thing, I’m not the same person after I met Jesus."
ILL. A Modern Day Transformation
Charles (Chuck) Colson in 1993 received the Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion, the $1 million
prize is the largest prize for achievement in any field. Colson had served 7 months in prison for obstructing justice in the
Watergate cover-up and was known as the scandal’s "Hatchet Man." His stay in prison led to his conversion and later
the founding of prison fellowship in 1976. Many lives have been changed thru this ministry.
II. Understanding the Sinner
• A hunter is never going to be successful until he understands the nature
and habits of the animal he is hunting. In the same way we are never going to be successful winning the lost until we have
some understanding of how they think and act.
(A) 2 COR 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to
them that are lost. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the
glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
• The longer we are a believer the less we think like an unbeliever. We forget the lost man is blinded
and can not see and understand what he needs to do. Why does a person get "dog drunk" and deathly sick one weekend and swear
they’ll never drink again and then the next weekend do the same thing? Because they forget what it was really like.
In the same way after we have been saved for a while we forget how it was when we were lost.
(B) ACTS 8:30-31 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard
him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, how canI, except some man should
guide me?
• The story of the Ethiopian eunuch clearly shows that Satan can blind us. He has just left church.
(Acts 8:27) He had sat thru the singing, the preaching, and the invitation. Yet just a short time later he told Philip he
did not know how to be saved. Does this sound familiar? How many times have we shook our head, frustrated wondering "How could
they leave such a powerful service lost?" What can we do to help these kind of people?
(C) PSA 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and aLight
unto my path.
• We must continue to expose the lost (blind) to the word (light). The word is the only thing that can
penetrate the darkness and allow the lost person to see his condition, (Acts 8:35) Philip preached unto him Jesus even though
he had probably just heard this at church. Only this time the light shined thru and he understood. Don’t get frustrated
by your inability to reach someone, just keep sharing the word and inviting them to church . (Rom 10:17)
UNIT 4
Witnessing Jesus Style
• There is no better way for us to develop a method of witnessing than to look
at the life of Jesus Christ. He was the ultimate soul-winner. Here are some principles of soul-winning we see in the life
of Jesus.
I. Find Common Ground
(A) 1 COR 9:22 L.B. Whatever a person is like I try to
find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him aboutChrist.
• (JN 4:1-14) Jesus and the Samaritan woman shared something in common. They were both hot and tired
and needed water. Jesus did not begin this conservation with the "Roman Road" or the "Doctrine of Salvation by Grace", but
rather with "I’m thirsty, give me a drink."
• This kind of approach causes people to feel relaxed and not threatened. It makes them feel like they
are in control of the conversation. Then at an opportune time turn the conversation in a spiritual direction. Here are some
things people love to talk about.
a. Themselves
d. Job
b. Children
e. Current Events
c. Grand Children
• A good general education can help you in witnessing because it enables you to talk intelligently
on different subjects. Reading and listening to the news can also help.
II. Find People Who are Receptive
(A) MATT 10:14) NLT If a village doesn’t welcome
you or listen to you, shake off the dust of that place from your feet as you leave.
(B) MATT 7:6 Give not that which is Holy unto
the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, least they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you.
• Jesus tells us the kind of people we should witness to. This is a hard scripture for many people to
understand. It seems so much unlike Jesus and the Bible to tell us to ignore certain people and not share the gospel with
them. At first glance it seems to contradict what Jesus himself said in other passages of scripture.
(Matt 28:19; Mk 16:15; Acts 1:8) What
was Jesus trying to teach us?
1. TOTALLY UNINTERESTED PEOPLE
• The words "Dogs, Swine" are Jewish metaphors that refer to inviting the totally uninterested pagans
to take part in God’s activities. There are certain people to whom it is impossible to share the truth with. God will
have to intervene, something will have to happen in their life before they can receive the truth.
2. TIME IS PRECIOUS
• Jesus spoke of the urgency of the message in (Lu 10:2-11). Salute no man by the way. We
have a limited amount of time and opportunities to witness to the lost. Jesus is teaching us not to waste time upon people
who are not receptive. We are to move on (shake the dust off our feet) to someone who is willing to listen.
3. EVERYONE DESERVES HEARING
Jesus was certainly not saying that some people don’t deserve to hear the gospel at all. Jesus (Matt
10: 14) tells us to share the gospel, then leave if they are not receptive. We are not to give up on anybody. It may be impossible
for us to talk to them, but it is always possible to show someone Christ thru our life.
4. WHO IS RECEPTIVE
Who are the most receptive people? Those who have experienced major change or problems in their life. Here
is a list of people who are generally receptive to the gospel.
a. Second time visitors to the church
b. Close friends and relatives of converts
c. People going thru a divorce
d. Those who feel a need for help (Alc., drugs, etc.)
e. First time parents
f. The terminally ill and their families
g. Couples with major marriage problems
h. Parents with problem children
i. Recently unemployed persons
j. People with major financial problems
k. New residents in the community
III. Don’t Ignore Physical Needs
(A) MATT 15:32 GNB Jesus called his disciples to him and
said, "I feel sorry for these people, because they have been with me for three days and now have nothing to eat. I don’t
want to send them away without feeding them, because they might faint on the way home."
(B) MATT 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers,
raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give.
Whenever Jesus encountered a person he’d begin with their hurts, needs, and interests. When he sent
out his disciples he told them to do the same. (Matt 10:8) Jesus was concerned about the whole person. Here are some examples
of how Jesus witnessed and met needs at the same time. This is called "Ministry Evangelism."
a. Mk 8:1-9 Jesus fed the multitude. A person with a full belly is easier to talk to about Jesus
than a man who is hungry.
b. Jn 9: 1-38 Jesus healed the blind man and then asked him to believe.
c. Mk 7:31-37 Jesus healed the deaf man then the deaf man went and preached.
d. Mk 2:3-12 Jesus stopped preaching and healed the paralyzed man.
e. Mk 5:25-34 Jesus healed the woman with the issue of blood then told her she was saved.
Jesus, like us, certainly knew that the spiritual need is far greater than the physical need. What Jesus demonstrated
thru out the gospels is that meeting the physical needs of a person will many times open the door for you to minister to the
far greater spiritual needs. If we have no concern, no willingness to meet the needs of the lost, our message looses a lot
of it’s power.
IV. Don’t Condemn the Lost
(A) JN 3:17 For God sent not his son into the world tocondemn
(judge) the world, but that thru him might the world be saved.
Jesus Christ did not come to this world to judge people, to tell them how bad and worthless they were in the
sight of God. He did not come to point out our faults, but rather to point them to God the father. The church needs to rediscover
this principle of witnessing for the new millenium. We are not called to beat people to death with their faults but rather
to tell people that the grace of God is sufficient to cover all our faults.
(Ep 2:8-9; 2 Cor 12:9; Rom 5:20) Here are some examples of Jesus witnessing without condemning.
a. Jn 8:1-11 Never mentioned her adulterous act.
b. Jn 4:1-26 Never asked about her live-in man.
c. Jn 3:1-8 Did not rebuke Nicodemus harshly for not knowing the truth.
By not mentioning their sins Jesus was certainly not condoning them nor did he think the sins were unimportant.
Jesus understood a truth that we need to grasp. Murder, adultery, sexual perversion, drug addicts, etc. are not the problem,
they are only symptoms of the problem. The problem is they are not in a right relationship with God. Jesus dealt with the
problem and not the symptoms.
For these people who seem to think that Jesus "Told It Like It Was and Cut Them No Slack" and use this as
a scriptural basis to condemn people, I challenge you to search the scriptures. The people whom Jesus "Cut NO Slack," and
was very harsh with were religious people whose minds were closed to the truth. People who were responsible for shedding light
on God’s word.
a. Matt 23:13-39 Woe unto scribes and Pharisees
b. Jn 2:13-17 Den of thieves
V. Don’t Try To Educate lost on Doctrine
Jesus never wasted precious time trying to educate the lost on doctrines of the faith.
He simply preached and extended an invitation.
(A) MATT 11:28-30 Come unto me all ye that labor.
(B) MATT 22: 1-4 Come unto the marriage
(C) JN 7:37-38 If any man thirst, Let him come
unto me.
We come from many different backgrounds Old Regular, United, Pentecostal, Methodist, Church of God, Church
of Christ, and many with no church background. In trying to win the lost from these many different backgrounds we should not
waste all our time trying to get them to understand and accept our view on such things as:
a. How to dress
b. Length of hair
c. Water baptism
d. Security of believer
e. Tithing
f. Lottery
g. Double married
We simply need to share with them the need of being (2 Cor 5:18-21) "Reconciled Back To God." That knowing
Jesus as Lord and Savior is what is important. These other issues can be worked out after they are saved. Remember they are
blinded to these truths
(2 Cor 4:3-4) and unless they are "Spiritually Enlightened" teaching them spiritual truths is impossible.
UNIT 5
Soul-Winning Method
I. Jesus Method
A study of the gospel’s to determine the method or formula Jesus used to
win the lost will reveal that he had no particular formula that he used each time.
1. WHO STARTED THE CONVERSATION
9 Times Jesus initiated the conversation
(A) JN 4:7-42 Samaritan woman
(B) JN 5:1-15 A crippled beggar.
25 Times someone else initiated the conversation
(A) MATT 19:16-30 Rich young ruler
(B) MK 5:1-20 Legion
(C) MK 5: 21-43 Jairus
(D) MK 5:24-34 Woman with issue of blood
Conversation initiated by 3rd party
(A) MATT 9:9-13 Sinners invited to party by Matthew
(B) LU 23 6:16 Herod introduced by Pilate
(C) JN 1:45-51 Nathaniel invited by Philip
(D) JN 8:1-11 Adulterous woman brought by scribes
2. WHERE DID CONVERSATION TAKE PLACE
The majority occurred in work place.
(A) MATT 4:21-22 James and John
(B) JN 4:7-42 Samaritan woman
(C) JN 5:1-15 Lame man
• Some took place in homes.
(A) MK 1:29-31 Peters house
(B) MK 7:24-30 Syro-Phoenician woman
(C) LU 19:1-10 Zacchaeus’s house
A few were in religious settings.
LU 6: 6-11 Man with withered hand.
In conclusion we must agree there is no one particular method that must be used.
II. Paul’s Method
1 COR 9:19-22 Though I am free and belong to no man, I
make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I become like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under
the law, I become like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so as to win those under the law. To those
not having the law, I become like one not having the law, so as to win those not having the law. To the weak, I become weak,
to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.
Paul, like Jesus had no particular method. He said my method depends upon whom I am with. In the lives
of Jesus and Paul we can clearly see that our method must change to accommodate the working of the Holy Spirit. The reason
the Bible reveals no method or formula for soul-winning is that God wants us to learn to rely on him and not a method.
III. A Possible Method For Us
This method we are going to look at is from the booklet "Share Jesus Without
Fear" by William Fay and Ralph Hodge. This is a very simple method that involves 3 steps.
STEP 1
The 1st step involves asking 5 different questions. These questions are not designed to cause a theological
debate but rather to give the person a chance to talk so that you may be able to gauge where they are at spiritually. Jesus
used this method in more than half of the conversations recorded by him.
a. Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
b. To you, who is Jesus?
c. Do you think there is a Heaven and a Hell?
d. If you died right now, where would you go?
e. If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
If at question (e) you get a yes then you move on to step 2. If you get a firm no then you have done
all you can do. Either way you are successful.
STEP 2
The 2nd step is to allow the Bible to speak for itself. God uses scriptures to change people’s lives.
Learn to let the Bible speak for itself. Here is a list of 7 scriptures to ask the lost person to read out loud.
a. Rom 3:23
b. Rom 6:23
c. Jn 3:3
d. Jn 14:6
e. Rom 10:9-11
f. 2 Cor 5:15
g. Rev 3:20
Some helpful hints:
a. Don’t embarrass someone that doesn’t read well.
b. Mark Bible so scriptures are easily found.
c. Keep a pocket-size N.T. with you.
STEP 3
• The 3rd step is to ask the person to make a decision. This is the part many Christians fear the most. At this
point we need to remember that we are working in partnership with almighty God and all the power of Heaven is behind us. The
scriptures that you have read will prepare the person for the questions you are about to ask.
a. Are you a sinner?
b. Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
c. Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
d. Are you willingly to surrender your life to Christ?
e. Are you ready to invite Jesus into your life and your heart?
At this point pray silently and allow the person time to make their decision. Remember this person is going
thru a tremendous battle at this point. If the answer is yes, lead that person in a Prayer of Repentance. Here is an example
of a sinners prayer.
Heavenly Father, I have sinned against you. I want forgiveness for my sins. I believe Jesus died on the cross
for me and rose again. Father, I give my life to do with as you wish. I want Jesus Christ to come into my life and into my
heart. This I ask in Jesus name, AMEN.
Some helpful hints:
a. Offer them the opportunity to pray alone.
b. At any point in the questions if they indicate they are ready to make a commitment, stop and pray.
c. Encourage them to make this commitment public.
d. Encourage them to be baptized.
Answer no response with "WHY"
If the person answers "No" ask them "WHY?" There are many reasons why someone would say no. Don’t
waste time trying to figure it out, let them tell you. You may be able to deal with the issue and give the Holy Spirit another
opportunity to expose the weakness of their argument. If they refuse to discuss it any further, respect their wishes. Remember
most of the people we witness to are people we know and are around often, so don’t be so pushy that you cut off future
opportunities to witness.
UNIT 6
Commitment Time
I. Soul-Winning Not For Faint-Hearted
It takes a special kind of person to be a faithful witness and soul-winner.
You must be able to handle rejection. Statistics prove that only 1 out of every 10 people you invite to church will ever come.
You will be persecuted and mocked and people will avoid you. Look what happened to some of the great men of the Bible.
a. Mk 6:14-29 John the Baptist beheaded.
b.
Acts 4:13-22 Peter and John threatened.
c.
Acts 6:8, 7:54-60 Stephen stoned.
d.
Mk 3:22 Jesus called a devil.
In order not to get discouraged because of a lack of results we need to remember the advice God gave
Samuel (1 Sam 8:7) N.L.T. "Do As They Say," the Lord replied, for it is me they are rejecting, not you." We must never take
rejection personal because it is God they are rejecting, not us.
GAL 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing, for in
due season we shall reap if we faint not.
Paul also gives us encouragement by promising us results if we don’t give up.
II. Becoming A Better Soul-Winner
If we are going to make a commitment to soul-winning then we ought to commit
ourselves to becoming the best we can possibly be. Soul winning is a co-operative
effort between God and man. Since God has always given his best for us, He deserves our best effort. This is going to take
time and energy on our part. Here are some things we can do to become a better soul-winner.
1. LEARN THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE
1 PET 1:23-25 Being born again not of an incorruptible
seed , but of incorruptible, by the word of God.
2 TIM 2:15 Study to show thy selves approved.
If sinners are saved thru the word, the more we know about the word the better soul-winners
we’ll be.
2. PRAY
LU 6:12 And it came to pass in those days,
that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Only God knows who is ready and willing to be saved. So it only makes sense that we ask God for
direction and learn to "Listen to the Spirit."
3. SPEND TIME WITH GOD
JN 15:7-8 If ye abide in me and my words abide
in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Here is my father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, so
shall ye be my disciples.
The more time we spend with Christ, the more fruit (souls saved) we’ll see.
4. BY DOING
JAMES 1:22 Be ye doers of the word
and not hearers only.
Like any other job you do "Practice Makes Perfect." The more you do it, the more proficient
you will become.
III. A Personal Commitment
As we near the end of this study each one of us must make a decision, about
what we are going to do with what we have learned. Are we going to take this knowledge and use it for the Glory of God to
win souls or just store this information away for future reference? Consider, very seriously, making a personal commitment
to God (not the church) to win souls. Look closely at the personal commitment sheet and make a decision.
